VIRUS & MALWARE CLEANUP

FOR A "WINDOWS" COMPUTER

 

SUMMARY:

HERE IS A PROVEN PROCEDURE FOR CLEANING A VIRUS AND/OR MALWARE-INFECTED COMPUTER:

 

 

DETAILED STEP-BY-STEP TACTICAL PROCEDURE:

Step 1:

Shut off the infected computer.

 

Step 2:

Go to another computer.

 

Step 3:

Download a copy of the free edition of Malwarebytes "Anti-Malware" from

http://www.malwarebytes.org

 

The file that you download will be called

      "mbam-setup. exe".

 

Step 4:

Put "mbam-setup.exe" on a USB flash drive or a CD disk.

 

Step 5:

For the infected computer, press the on/off power button and hit the F8 key a bunch of times.

 

Step 6:

When asked by the text menu, use the up and down arrow keys of your keyboard to select "Safe Mode".

 

Step 7:

After the "Windows desktop" loads in "Safe Mode", install "Anti-

Malware" into the infected computer.

 

Step 8:

Start the "Anti-Malware" software program.

 

Step 9:

Run a scan after selecting the "Quick Scan" option.

 

Step 10:

Run a scan after selecting the "Full Scan" option.

 

Step 11:

Re-boot the computer.

 

Step 12:

Determine if your computer is still infected.

 

Step 13:

If the computer is still infected, shut off the computer and go to "Step 14".

If your computer is not infected, go to "Step 29".

 

Step 14:

Go to another computer and download the free version of "SuperAntiSpyware" from

http://www.superantispyware.com

 

 

Step 15:

The file that you download will be called

       "SUPERAntiSpyware. exe".

Put it on a USB flash drive or a CD disc.

 

Step 16:

If you put "SUPERAntiSpyware.exe" on a CD disc, click on the "Burn" button in the "Windows Explorer" window that represents the CD disc and wait for the "burn" to complete.

 

Step 17:

If you put "SUPERAntiSpyware.exe" on a CD disc, eject the CD disk from the CD drive.

 

 

Step 18:

If you put "SUPERAntiSpyware.exe" on a USB flash drive,

click on the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" button in the "Notification Area" of the Windows "taskbar".

 

Step 19:

If you put "SUPERAntiSpyware.exe" on a USB flash drive,

click on the "Eject.." option for your USB flash drive.

 

Step 20:

Go to the infected computer, boot up and hit the F8 key a bunch of times.

 

Step 21:

When asked by the text menu, select "Safe Mode".

 

Step 22:

After the "Windows desktop" loads in "Safe Mode", insert the USB flash drive or the CD where you placed "SUPERAntiSpywere.exe.

 

Step 23:

Start "Windows Explorer", "My Computer", or "Computer".

 

Step 24:

Double-click on the "drive" where "SUPERAntiSpyware.exe" is located.

 

Step 25:

Double-click on "SUPERAntiSpyware" to install it into the infected computer.

 

Step 25:

Start the "SUPERAntiSpyware" software program.

 

Step 26:

Run a scan after selecting the "Quick Scan" option.

 

Step 27:

Run a scan after selecting the "Complete Scan" option.

 

Step 28:

Re-boot the computer

 

Step 29:

Start whatever anti-virus software you normally run in the computer.

 

Step 30:

Do a "Quick Scan" if this option is available.

 

Step 31:

Do a "Full Scan" if this option is available.

 

Step 32:

Run Eset's "Online Scanner"

by using a Web browser to go to

http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/run

 

 

Step 33:

Run McAfee's "Security Scan Plus"

by using a Web browser to go to

http://home.mcafee.com/store/Product.aspx?productid=mss

 

Step 34:

Run TrendMicro's Web-based online "HouseCall"

by using a Web browser to go to

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

 

Step 35:

Run the Web-based online "Microsoft Windows Live OneCare" scanner by using a Web browser to go to

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm
