Short description:
A way of sharing files and printers that originated with "Windows 3.11 for Workgroups".
Both computers must be on the same "Workgroup".
Both computers must be connect to the same physical local area network.
Both computers must be running IP version 4.
"Classic File Sharing" is the only method of file sharing that is available in "Windows XP".
"Classic File Sharing" allows file sharing between all versions of "Windows..", "Mac OS X", Linux, and Unix.


HOMEGROUPS (in Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 or 10)
Short Description:
A way to share files and printers that was introduced with "Windows 7".
"Windows XP" and "Windows Vista" computers cannot participate in a homegroup.
Both computers must be connect to the same physical local area network.
Both computers must be running IP version 6.
A Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 or 10 will automatically make itself a new homegroup if it does not find one that is already made.
Two separate processes in Windows 7 or 8 or 8.1 or 10: "Homegroup Listener" and "Homegroup Provider".
Homegroups use "Server Message Blocks" but "Homegroups" use a
HomeGroup$ hidden user
and a hidden
"HomeGroup" workgroup
to activate file and printer sharing.
